Our Environmental Stewardship

In recent years, many environmental groups have revealed the destructive environmental and humanitarian effects resulting from the export of non-operational electronics to underdeveloped countries. A report entitled "Exporting Harm - The High Tech Trashing Asia" revealed extremely hazardous and dangerous E-waste "recycling" operations that pollute the air, water, and soil of Asian countries. This report, prepared by the Basel Action Network and Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition in 2002, reveals how many families bath and drink from the same water polluted by the unregulated burning and dumping of electronic components.

Therefore, our responsibility is in partnering with recycling companies that have developed a socially responsible refining program to govern the processing of “non-reusable” electronic equipment. This Refining program oversees the shredding, smelting, and metals refining of non-reusable electronic equipment. The program, which is consistent with the recycling mandates put forth by the Basel Action Network and the EPA’s Guidelines for Materials Management can be summarized as follows:

No wireless e-waste (cellular handsets, motherboards, ink cartridges, batteries, etc) will be sent to solid waste landfills.

No wireless e-waste will be processed in developing countries. This policy applies to both primary and secondary smelting and refining operations.

Our recycling company will make every conceivable effort to ensure that all downstream smelting and refining operations will meet all applicable environmental regulations. Batteries will be disposed of according to EPA requirement.

Our partners are members of the International Association of Electronics Recyclers, National Recycling Coalition & Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries as well as an endorser of the EPA WasteWise program and pledge member of the Basel Action Network.
